What determines the price of a desert tour in Morocco?
Four factors explain almost every price difference you will see:
- Departure city. Marrakech is about 8 to 9 hours from M’Hamid, so a tour from Marrakech includes two long driving days, fuel and the driver’s time. Starting from M’Hamid, Zagora or Ouarzazate removes most of that cost.
- Group size. Our prices are per person and fall as the group grows. A 4x4 seats up to six passengers, so two people pay far more per head than a group of six.
- Number of nights in the desert. Each extra night adds meals, camp and guide time, but per-night costs drop on longer trips.
- Style of camp. A traditional nomad camp with shared bathrooms is much cheaper than a luxury camp with private en-suite tents.
Our published rates are the same all year; the best months are October to April, and in summer temperatures exceed 40°C.

Is it cheaper to organise a desert trip yourself?
Sometimes, but the saving is smaller than it looks. A CTM or Supratours bus from Marrakech to Zagora and a taxi to M’Hamid saves the private transfer, but you still need a 4x4 or camels to reach Erg Chigaga, 60 km of track from M’Hamid, and finding them on arrival in high season can be difficult:
