'Breath of the Desert': 7-Day Yoga & Camel Trek Retreat from Marrakech (Oct 2026)
'Breath of the Desert' is a seven-day inner journey between Marrakech and the untouched desert of M'Hamid, guided by certified teachers Sylvie and Hélène. Four days of walking with camels through dunes, plateaus and palm groves are woven with Hatha yoga, pranayama, meditation, Afghan walking, Satsang and workshops built around the four Ayurvedic elements. Nights are spent in simple nomad bivouacs under the stars, with a riad in Marrakech at either end.

Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrival and welcome in MarrakechAirport welcome and transfer to a traditional riad in the medina. Time to settle in, meet the group and go through the retreat programme: stages, daily rhythm, yoga and meditation practices, desert life and group commitments. Night at the riad.
- Day 2: Marrakech – M'HamidBreakfast, then an early drive south through changing landscapes with a free lunch stop; Satsang and group work may be offered on the way. Afternoon arrival in M'Hamid, set-up at the bivouac and dinner in the desert.
- Day 3: M'Hamid – Sidi Naji (Earth)Grounding yoga practice, then the first stage of the camel trek through the palm grove and past old kasbahs. Lunch under the tamarisks, walk on to Sidi Naji, site of an old desert marabout. Evening workshop on identity and personal challenges, dinner, Satsang on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, night under the stars.
- Day 4: Sidi Naji – Erg Zahar (Fire)Hatha yoga and pranayama at dawn, then cross the Bousnina reg with an introduction to Afghan walking. Asana session and mindful lunch on the way. Arrival at the great dunes of Erg Zahar and camp among the dunes; fire ceremony and workshop on effort, purification and transformation.
- Day 5: Erg Zahar – Aït Ounir dunes (Water)Sunrise meditation, then head north across the pale dunes of Aït Ounir to the Draa riverbed for lunch. Walk to the camp under the tamarisks. Workshop on fears and limiting beliefs, evening around the fire and guided meditation before sleep.
- Day 6: Aït Ounir – Ras Nkhal palm grove (Air)Morning pranayama on breath and energy, then walk to the oasis and palm grove of Ras Nkhal. Camp among the date palms, sunset in the palm grove and a Satsang on living a yogic life back home.
- Day 7: Return to MarrakechLast desert breakfast, then drive back to Marrakech and check in at the riad. Closing circle to share experiences and integrate the journey. Night in Marrakech.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be an experienced yogi?
No advanced level is required. The retreat is for anyone ready to live a group experience, step out of routine and engage openly in a process of inner discovery.
How much walking is there?
Some days include about three to four hours of walking at a gentle pace, with camels carrying the luggage. You should be comfortable walking regularly.
What is the comfort level in the desert?
This is not a spa retreat. Nights are in bivouacs with camping bedding and basic sanitary facilities, close to nature and the nomad way of life.
What if the weather changes?
The programme may be adjusted to weather conditions, the group's rhythm and the realities of the desert.
