Itinerary
- Day 1: M'Hamid – Erg Sidi NajiMorning departure from M'Hamid through the palm grove and old kasbahs. Lunch under the tamarisks, then on to Erg Sidi Naji and the tomb of a marabout revered by the nomads. First bivouac with campfire and sand-baked bread.
- Day 2: Erg Sidi Naji – Erg ZaharCross the stony Bousnina reg to the great dunes of Erg Zahar, the 'singing dunes'. Panoramic sunset and night in the bivouac.
- Day 3: Erg Zahar – Erg EssmarHead towards the Draa Valley with lunch by a natural well, then on to Erg Essmar, a mix of oasis and dunes. Night in a traditional bivouac.
- Day 4: Erg Essmar – Erg ChigagaCross the Erg of Sedra to reach the largest dunes in Morocco at Erg Chigaga. Sunset over the sea of sand, dinner and night at the foot of the dunes.
- Day 5: Erg Chigaga – Oued LaatachOption to climb the great Abidlia dune at sunrise, then walk towards Oued Laatach with lunch on the way. Bivouac.
- Day 6: Oued Laatach – Erg Aït OunirCross the small dry lake of Iriki and lunch among the dunes of Bougarne. Last desert night at Erg Aït Ounir, an isolated dune surrounded by tamarisks.
- Day 7: Erg Aït Ounir – M'HamidFinal crossing of the Hamada of the Draa, lunch on the way and arrival in M'Hamid. Optional extra night in a bivouac in the palm grove.

Frequently asked questions
What fitness level is required?
Accessible to regular walkers: moderate walking every day for a week on sand, regs and dry lake beds. A riding camel can be added for 20 EUR per day if you want to ride part of the way.
Do I need to bring food?
No, full board is included during the trek, as is mineral water. Only soft drinks are extra.
What is the accommodation?
Comfortable tents with mattresses and blankets in a traditional bivouac at a different site each night. Basic shared facilities; bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth.
Can the itinerary be adapted?
Yes, private groups can adjust the route and pace, and add a night in the palm grove at the end.
When is the best season?
October to April. Summer temperatures are too high for a seven-day trek.
