Leave M'Hamid in the morning by 4x4 with a guide and cook, stop for tea with nomad families, lunch in the Sacred Oasis and then set up a wild bivouac in the dunes of Erg Chigaga. Itinerary

  1. Day 1: M'Hamid – hamada – nomads – Sacred Oasis – Erg ChigagaMorning departure from M'Hamid by 4x4 with guide, cook and assistants. Cross the hamada, stop for tea with a nomad family and lunch in the Sacred Oasis. The wild bivouac (tents, mattresses, blankets, kitchen tent) is set up at Erg Chigaga; sunset from the great dune, dinner and music by the fire.
  2. Day 2: Erg Chigaga – M'HamidSunrise on the dunes, breakfast and the 4x4 drive back to M'Hamid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference with the 2-day Erg Chigaga camp tour?

Here you sleep in a private wild bivouac set up just for your group, with your own cook, rather than in a fixed camp with showers. It is more intimate and cheaper, but with basic facilities.

Are there toilets or showers?

No fixed facilities in a wild bivouac; the team provides water for washing. Choose our camp version if you prefer showers.

Can I add a camel ride?

Yes, for 15 EUR per person, ideally at sunset.

Is this a private tour?

Yes. All our departures are private, in small groups of 1 to 8 people, with your own vehicle, driver and local guide. Dates are flexible and the programme can be adapted to your group.

What should I pack?

Light, breathable clothes for the day and a few warm layers for the evening, comfortable closed shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream. Blankets are provided, but bring a sleeping bag if you have one for extra comfort.

The fastest way to reach the great dunes of Erg Chigaga from Ouarzazate. Drive down the Draa Valley, visit Tamegroute's Koranic library and potteries, ride a camel at M'Hamid and watch the sunset from the dunes before a night at a comfortable nomad camp. Return by the dry Lake Iriqui, Foum Zguid and the carpet cooperative of Taznakht: a full loop with no backtracking.
